14th March's training

I found this week's NPCC training fun.We learnt a new knot, the bowline knot. We were split into groups and GhimChoon NCO took our group. My group consists of Isabelle, Eileen, YiFan, ZiKang and me. It did not take us long to learn those knot. So far, we have learnt how to tie bowline knot, reef knot, figure of 8 knot and also the thumb knot. We had a small competition that day and WeiChong Sir managed to win us.

After which, we went to the parade square under the super hot sun. We played blow wind blow. We had a fun time sabotaging each other, espicially the CIs. We were dismissed after that.

14th March's training

Training was very fun as we got officially awarded as LCPs during the muster parade.

After that, we learnt baton drills, from drawing out of baton to salute. It was the first time our squad is learning baton drills, so i am sure everyone are very excited.

Then we had Campcraft, Wei Qing Sir challenged us to hammer the peg into the ground within 30 seconds, majority did below the time limit but a few didn't. But they were only a few seconds late, so i think it was still a job well done. Then we learnt the names of the different parts needed to construct a tent. Wei Qing Sir also told us about how to differentiate the ground sheet, inner sheet and outer sheet. We ended the day with the 35 pumping we still owe Wei Qing Sir.

14th March's training

Today morning after the parade we have our PT.

This PT was conducted in a different way as compared to the other PTs that we had. during the PT we need to have determination. For example, the girls had to do the guys' style pumping. even when we could not continue after doing 8 pumping, we still tried to finish it.

After PT we had soft skill training. we learnt that to write a proposal, we needed to include the 6Ps. the 6Ps are purpose,policy/guiding principal , process , programme details , provision of support and key performance indicator. after that for group 1,2,and 3 they were under Alvin sir and group 4,5,and 6 were under Deannz mdm. For my group we under Deannz mdm, and we presented the proposal that we had done last week. i personally think that the soft skill session really benefitted us alot, because we learnt how to write proposals and we can learn our mistake from the proposal that we do. all this will be very useful for us as when we become NCOs, we need to write a lot of proposal.

7th March's training

Training was quite fun as usual. The CIs were very funny and joked with us alot. First, we had PT session. It was very tiring, but was also very fun.

After that, we went into the classroom and learnt new commands. It was quite difficult to understand at first, and quite a number of us were quite blur. So the CIs brought us down to do some practice and it became clear to us. After more practicing, the squad managed to do the drill quite well.

After that, the training ended. Although I was quite tired and hungry after the training, I still found it quite fun.

7th March's training

Today, we had training. First, we brushed up on our basic drills.

After that, we did some rifle drills. We learnt how to put down and pick up our rifles in sedia position. Although it seemed quite easy, but it had some difficulty in it. For example, the squad had to execute the command at the same pace. If we did not, there would not be 1 solid bang, and it would look messy. However, some of us did it fast, some did it slowly. So the faster ones had to try to slow down, while the slower ones had to speed up.

After our rifle drills, we changed into our PT kit and were asked to go into our own groups. My group and 2 other groups were under Deannz mdm. We had to plan and do a proposal for our training next week. I think it is quite good as we can familiarize ourselves more with doing proposals.

Today in the morning had parade. After period learnt 2 new drills. We split into 2 smaller groups within our own group after learning the basic of how to turn back during marching. After we learnt tat, we were taught how to march forward when we ar in 3 ranks. It was just lyk the marching we learnt before. Our group finished first so we rested for awhile. After that was told to change into PT-KIT. We were late for 7 mins, so had to do 70 pumpings. We split it into half for this training and for the next. Actually suppose to have PT but Sirs and Mdms knew that we ran yesterday so didnt have PT. Learnt some cheers and went home. Thats all for today.

7th February's training

For today's training, it was quite a fun one. Especially during PT session, when the whole unit was having fun together.

During the parade, it was also a proud moment for most of us as we got our first badge, the 3rd class drill badge. Although we were not familiar with the routine of receiving awards and made a "joke" out of it, but we were still proud of ourselves.

During campcraft lessons, we refreshed on our skills as most of us have more or less forgotten some of our knots and lashings.

Well, for the last activity of the day, we really had loads of fun with our juniors and seniors. We really hope there will be more opportunities as time goes by.

And although we have disappointed our CIs, but as time passes, i believe we will get better.

31st January's training..

Being under Kenneth and Dickson NCO, I was kind of elated as my group had very good coordination and I think everyone should be able to pass the test of the 3rd class drill badge.
I noticed that some of us did not put in 100% effort in our drills and does drills wrongly such as doing the "horse kick".
I think we should brush up on our drills, and should also be more serious during trainings and show everyone that we, as a squad, can do things correctly and properly.
I am excited as I think we will be getting our lance coporal ranks and will be putting on our very 1st badge on our uniform soon.

I was quite disappointed in myself today, as during the test, I think I did not do very well as I was very tired and was not in tip top condition.
CA tests are coming soon. I hope that after the CA's, the whole squad will be able to get more serious and put in more effort during training.
And also, to work together as a whole squad.

First of all, I wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year to everyone!

NO TRAINING ON 24th January 2009 due to this prestigous holiday!
Chinese will be busy preparing for new year, and our other races friends would have a long holiday to enjoy! (:

However, those who are involved in the planning for the Sec 1 Orientation Day Camp, there is a planning session at 9am in the morning on 24th Jan! :/
Please turn up as the planning has to go on.
The Sec 1s are reporting on the 31st Jan. Which is the next training after this saturday.

There is changes to the NCO structure so that the sec 1s will get their NCOs too.

I think today's training is quite useful though is quite tiring.
It is useful as it refreshes our drills as during the holidays,many of us have some how forgotten the drills be it turning and even marching drills.
It also helped us to revise for the third class drill badge so that everyone in Peregrines II will hopefully pass the test.
We've also learn some drills which most of us have forgotten long time ago for example,Sizing.
The NCOs' are very patient and they observe every movement and positon after we do a drill.For example,the locking of elbows.
The NCOs' and CI's also ask if we are feeling well every point of time ensuring that all of us can still continue the training.
Well,though we did not really perform well today,but i think after more bonding and practices,Peregrines will hopefully show the best to the NCOs' and CI's,not disappointing them and also make them pround and think that all their time and hardwork are not wasted.

To the LEFT!

On 9 January 2009, Hougang Secondary (HS) had its 8th CCA recruitment day. Our Secondary 3 NCOs-to-be planned for the whole event. Advisors were attached to them, since they just learnt how to plan. It was an enriching program for them, for it was the first event they planned in their NPCC life.

Our booth exhibited uniforms, badges, ranks, weapons, and the squad tees from each squad over the years. On top of that, there was a slide show of photos shown to the Sec 1s. We featured different types of campcraft skills, such as tripod, tentage and A-Frame. Trophies were up for display too.

For the Sec 4s and 2s, they were paired up and assigned to talk to the Sec1s. The Sec 4s briefly explained to the Sec 1s what NP is about, and what they will experience if they join NP. Things went quite smoothly, but most of the Sec 1s needed time to consider, because our booth was the first one they visited.

The whole unit was involved in cheering too, to attract the Sec 1s. Sacrificed our voice, but we did our best. I believe our efforts would not go down the drain.

Overall, it was a good experience for the whole unit. A whole lot of effort and time were spent to make this a successful event. Hopefully many Sec 1s would be attracted and devote their 4 years to NP. Once they make this decision, only the best would be given to them.

First of all,
HAPPY NEW 2009 TO ALL!!

It's been a long time since training had ceased.
Good News: Training is RESUMING back to normal!
and this blog is ALIVE again!
(I'm so happy I can see you kids again! Hahas)
Bad News: It's starting on the 3rd day of the new year!
(some must have thought, why so fast?)

anyway, 3rd Jan will be the the start of our brand new year ahead!
we will be using this blog more often for notices and announcements.
Since technology is so good that most of us has a computer at home.
It wouldn't harm to come take a look whenever you're online.
so watch out for the new year! there's more that awaits us!
